Assistant Federal Public Defender
Marquette, MI

Elizabeth LaCosse is an Assistant Federal Defender dedicated to protecting the constitutional rights of individuals facing federal criminal charges. In her role with the Federal Public Defender’s Office, she represents clients at every stage of the criminal process—from initial appearance and detention hearings through trial, sentencing, and appeal. LaCosse is known for her client centered approach, persuasive advocacy, and deep commitment to ensuring equal access to justice. She works closely with clients to navigate complex federal statutes and sentencing guidelines, providing strategic defense in cases that often involve high stakes and intricate legal issues. Throughout her career, LaCosse has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, upholding the fundamental principle that every person is entitled to a vigorous and effective defense under the Constitution. She is a dedicated educator of attorneys serving as the Co-Education chair of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan and has served as faculty for the Hillman Trial program. Operating from the Marquette office, LaCosse brings more than 30 years of courtroom and case-management experience to federal defense. She is admitted to practice in Michigan state courts and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, as well as the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
